Rev. Dr. Deborah Scarborough

Dr. Deb was born and raised in Washington, DC. She is an accomplished Adjunct Professor with extensive experience of over 15 years in developing curriculum and guiding students to success. She is proficient in identifying educational resources and creative learning experiences to improve student outcomes. Dr. Deb teaches and develops syllabi for Ordination Preparation Seminar I and II courses at Maple Springs Baptist Bible College and Seminary in Capitol Heights, MD. 

 

Dr. Deb possesses a keen aptitude for writing, having authored several books, culminating in the successful publication and marketing of multi-generational bible journals. She has hosted book signings, book showcases, and online vendor booths. Dr. Deb has led journaling workshops based on her published works and instructed Christian educators on journaling techniques. She and her team manage media communications, website creation, brand development, and content promotion as well as produce marketing content, including broadcasts, videos, and reels. 

 

Dr. Deb provides expert consulting, coaching, and editing services to doctoral students and new book authors.  She provides editing and research support on dissertation papers for seminary doctoral students.

 

Dr. Deb has a proven track record as an experienced church administrator, coordinating, planning, and executing church events; recruiting, training staff and volunteers; overseeing budgets, education programs, and media communications. She has demonstrated leadership in supervising complex ministry, educational, and professional operations and fostering growth in numerous staff members. Dr. Deb is well-versed in managing large-scale community development projects, with a record of enhancing community services and facilitating significant events. She is skilled in strategic planning, policy development, and fostering collaborative relationships. 

 

Dr. Deb’s professional career has included being employed as a Pastoral Assistant, Chief of Staff, Hospital Administrator, Deputy Director of Community Services, Wellness Director for Senior Living Complex, Director of Child Development Center, Director of Pastoral Care Services, and Long-term Care Ombudsman. Dr. Deb has also served as President of the Central Gateway Community Development Corporation in Prince George’s County, MD. 

 

Dr. Deb has earned a Bachelor of Business Administration, a Master of Business Administration, and a Master of Divinity from Howard University in Washington, DC. She has earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH where her study focus was Prophetic Congregational Development Using 21st Century Methods. Her dissertation was entitled “A Model for Ministry Development: Team Approach to New Member Assimilation at The Sanctuary at Kingdom Square.” 

 

Dr. Deb has also earned a Master’s Certificate of Gerontology from the University of Maryland, Manager’s Certificate in Early Childhood Education from Prince George’s Community College, and she has completed The Sanctuary School of Ministry and Master Life Discipleship Program. Dr. Deb has received the Perry Smith Scholarship Award and Leadership Excellence in Ministry Alumni Award from Howard University.

Dr. Deb is a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of ACES, The American Copy Editors Society. 

 

Dr. Deb is the author of Bible Journaling for Kids, Putting on The Full Armor of God; Bible Journaling for Teens, Doing All Things Through Christ Who Strengthens Me; and Bible Journaling for Grown Folks, Having Life More Abundantly!

 

Dr. Deb is married to Gregory E. Scarborough, Sr. and they reside in Chesapeake Beach, MD. She has two children, one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, and five beautiful grandchildren. She loves to read, write, travel, relax on the beach, and spend time with family and friends.
